Graduate Intern

Interning at OIEE while pursuing my Masters in Social Work has presented me with the opportunity to learn about other cultures and take on a new perspective. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with diverse students and life experiences. These experiences allowed me to apply the knowledge from my coursework in real-world settings, helping to lead and support programs. As a Charlotte native, I was excited to be able to introduce the students to city life and always enjoyed the excitement and positive energy that was brought. I am extremely thankful for OIEE in helping me enhance my communication and program development skills all while being able to collaborate with great people!

Interning in OIEE while pursuing a social work degree provided a unique opportunity for me to think outside the box when it comes to applying the theories and concepts learned in the classroom to real actual events. I was fortunate to be able to learn about new cultures, people, and perspectives. I learned more about the university and the wider Charlotte community along with the program participants because of the fun and interactive activities, and developed lasting relationships with many of the former participants. However, the most rewarding aspect of my internship in OIEE was the opportunity to witness the genuine delight in the discoveries each program participant made while here. It helped me develop a greater appreciation for the things afforded to me on a daily basis. I also had the opportunity to return to OIEE as the Student Success Coordinator, where I continued providing support to program participants while helping OIEE achieve its mission. Overall, my experience with OIEE was extraordinary. One for which I am extremely thankful!
