Sophia University English Language & U.S. Culture Program

DEAR sophia University PARTICIPANTS:

We look forward to welcoming you to the English Language & U.S. Culture Program on August 23! This program will give students the opportunity to practice their English language while having fun exploring U.S. culture. The program is comprised of three main elements; academic classes, practical components, and cultural activities.

Our mission is to emphasize development and education through experience—and we will do just that on this program. Our unique program has qualified faculty ready to work with you to improve your language skills and prepare you for the various site visits you will attend. These special visits will complement your time in class and will also allow you to use your newly acquired English skills in authentic settings.

We are committed to helping you gain a rich and fulfilling experience in America and also assist you in fostering lasting friendships before you arrive, while you are here, and after your program’s completion. To facilitate such an endeavor, you will be partnered with Japanese language learners from UNC Charlotte called penpals or conversation partners. Along with the OIEE staff, these conversation partners will help orient you to life and culture here in the U.S.

Beyond academics, all OIEE programs are dedicated to sharing American culture and providing fun and exciting experiences in and around the Charlotte area. For this program we have arranged a variety of high impact and popular cultural activities for you to enjoy. We are positive that you will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the English language and American culture after your time with us in Charlotte!

Finally, if you have questions ahead of your arrival to the U.S., please ask your accompanying faculty member and the international office at Sophia University, who will be able to assist you.
