The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is the city’s largest university. It is located in University City, the northeastern portion of Charlotte, which is also home to University Research Park, a 13 km2 research and corporate park. With just under 29,000 students, UNC Charlotte is the fourth largest and the fastest-growing university in the state system.

Welcome to North Carolina’s largest metropolitan area and the U.S.’s 17th largest city. Nicknamed the Queen City, Charlotte and its resident county are named in honor of the British queen “Charlotte Sophia” of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
