Khbrat Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion

The Khbrat program was developed to provide a year-long immersive experience for teachers who teach English as a second language at various levels in the education system in Saudi Arabia. This program provided students with the opportunity to improve their English language and teaching skills involved five core elements: English language classes, graduate-level courses focusing on foreign language teaching and learning, individualized faculty mentoring, immersion in K-12 schools, and cultural/enrichment activities. Participants were exposed to new teaching methodologies, technological tools and digital resources that could be incorporated into their own classes. They also had the opportunity to learn about U.S. history and culture, as well as participate in a wide range of cultural activities around Charlotte and North Carolina.
