2020 Fulbright U.S. Program Pre-Departure Orientation: East Asia and the Pacific
The 2020 Fulbright U.S. Program Pre-Departure Orientation: East Asia and the Pacific was hosted in a virtual format September – October 2020. The pre-departure orientation (PDO) prepared nearly 142 scholars, students and English teaching assistants for their grant period in the East Asia and Pacific region. Countries in this region include locations such as Mongolia, Timor-Leste, Burma, and Vietnam
During the PDO, grantees attended numerous sessions, workshops, and panels, which were led by faculty and staff from across campus. Session leaders represented a variety of departments including the Office of International Programs, the Cato College of Education, the College of Health and Human Services, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Key takeaways for grantees included:
- A deeper understanding of how one’s individudal indentities will impact their exchange experience
- Awareness of strategies for maintaining mental health & well-being
- Increased knowledge of the grantee’s host country
- Understanding of lesson planning and EFL classroom pedegogy
